The Office of Emergency Management works in cooperation with local, state, and federal agencies in acquiring and receiving appropriate aid in the event of a man-made or natural disaster. The office has the following responsibilities:

• Maintains the town’s Emergency Management Plan, Swain’s Dam Emergency Action Plan and Operations and Maintenance Plan, and the Emergency Operations Center Organizational Handbook.
• Staffs the town’s Emergency Operations Center once activated. 
• Coordinates and assists in training for the town’s Public Safety departments.
• Applies for, and administers state and federal grants to develop emergency management programs.
